THE NEED FOR A "WINTER" BOOSTER.

Although we have closed our COVID-19 Clinic, that doesn't mean you no longer have to worry about getting COVID jabs. As epidemiologists always predicted, new variants of COVID-19 with differing effects continue to emerge. And while approved vaccines appear to still offer strong protection against the most serious consequences, their ability to prevent infection wanes after three months. As a result, COVID-19 case numbers multiplied rapidly during the Northern Hemisphere's winter months. That’s why it makes so much sense for you to get a second booster shot - now widely known as the Winter booster - four months after your third vaccination. We must stress, we are not currently providing any booster vaccinations here. However, Mona Vale Hospital along with several local pharmacies are now offering these second boosters. Just click Vaccination in NSW to learn more. By the way, you now can get both your Winter booster and your flu shot at the same time.

The explosive case numbers on the other side of the Equator also help explain why there is still a hand sanitiser at our front door. Spaced chairs inside and out. Plus the need to wear a mask indoors. And again we have reverted to face-to-face (or mask-to-mask) consultations. But while our consult rooms have reopened, we cannot see you if you've tested positive to any COVID-19 variant. In this case you should check out Managing COVID at Home. If you have a respiratory infection, and that includes the common cold, you can always call us for a teleheath consultation.

The flu season has started ahead of time.
The isolation precautions most of us have been observing for the past couple of years have had the unwanted effect of decreasing our immunity to the flu. Months before they're due, cases of influenza have appeared here, and indications are the rest of this season will be a bad one. At the moment we are offering the quadrivalent vaccine free for patients over the age of 65. Our flu shots are also free for children under five and anyone in between those ages with a chronic disease, the immunocompromised and pregnant women. People who don't fit into these categories can get their flu vaccinations through a participating pharmacy.

To make an appointment for a flu shot with one of our nurses, you can either use the HotDoc app or phone reception on 9913 7311.

Meanwhile, our services continue to reflect local family lifestyles.
We put extra emphasis on skin and mole exams as well as periodic health checks for men, women and children. Specific services include tests for cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Breast screens and Pap smears. Cardiovascular risk assessments. Weight loss and quit smoking advice. Prostate screens. Baby immunisations and four-year-old Healthy Kids Checks.

We are also equipped to carry out electrocardiogram (ECG) and lung function tests. We stay up to date with the latest developments in travel medicine. And we even offer anti-wrinkle treatments.

We continue to be fully accredited.
Narrabeen Family Medical enjoys full accreditation with Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited, the leading provider of accreditation to general practices in this country.

If you still want to know more about coronavirus, we will be retaining our COVID-19 page for a while yet.
